About me
I think I've always been a scientist of sorts, though it didn't start to become official until I graduated from Muhlenberg College in 2006 with a major in biology (and a minor in philosophy). I took time off before starting graduate school to be a research apprentice at Friday Harbor Laboratories and to work in the University of Arizona entomology department. Those experiences lead me to pursue (and secure) a Ph.D. in zoology from Miami University in 2014. I then was a postdoctoral scholar for two years in the entomology department at the University of Kentucky. After working as a lecturer at Georgia State University for three years, I began as an assistant professor at Clayton State University, and have since moved on to be a visiting assistant professor at Union College. I enjoy teaching my students about the wonders of biology, how to be scientists, and instilling them with a fascination about the natural world.
In my free time, I watch terrible movies (mostly sci-fi, horror, and action). I enjoy riding my bike and playing frisbee, though I've never done both simultaneously. I like videogames as well as board, card, and miniature games. I read, explore nature, listen to progressive rock, and think philosophically whenever I can. I am a fan of professional hockey, and a reluctant fan of the Philadelphia Flyers. I drive a fun car and love cats, though I detest the term “fur baby.”
